Dear Dr. Lam,

I have had adrenal fatigue since mid Jan 08. This was caused by overtraining my upper body.I was doing a 30 min. boxing work out, did weights on upper body, and swam 20 laps all in one day, 3x a week for 2 weeks. By Thanks Giving weekend of 07'I felt so fatigue that I stop training. I am 46 years old and my body is trying to tell me someting, even though I have been working out for the past 20 years. It's been 4 months since I last worked outand I finally had a Saliva test done. Cortisol. DHEA levels where below normal. I am on a Hormone replacement program taking DHEA and Prenonelone sublinguals, Adrenal Cortex Extracts, and Licorice root. I have given up exercise till I can get my hormones balanced. That being said, will I ever be able to go back to lifting weights, and doing some light cardio - ever?

Noel,

It's Dr. Len, Not Dr. Lam...i don't know if you intended this question for me? I hope it is and that it will help others, especially for the fact that so many people struggle or wonder why they can't get their adrenals back...even though they are taking a lot of the goodies you are, so keep reading.

Yes, with proper supervision, nutrition and supplementation you should be back to your old self, but the length of time it takes will depend on you and how well you follow the proper advice. Recovering from a malady is like body building...We all have to potential to achieve either one, but some of us get there sooner than others because they do more of what they are supposed to.

Anyway, since you are like many people, myself included, where fitness is a big part of our life...I would read some of the last few weeks Blogs on exercise mistakes or get a copy of To Burn or not to Burn, Fat is the Question to help make sure you do aerobic exercise that triggers "Aerobic Metabolism" The biggest mistake is to many people to their aerobic training at too hign an intensity level that it further stresses their body and overworks them, and that is exactly what we are NOT supposed to do when we are trying to restore our Adrenal Glands. So at least get outside and do some walking or easy cycling...whatever it is that you like doing, but you have to make sure that it STAYS aerobic otherwise you are just taking one step forward and one step backwards.

As far as what you are taking is good except for a couple of things. First you named off many good things, but Dosage is critical to achieve maximum results. Secondly and THE Biggest Reason Why People Can't get their adrenals back is because they aren't taking anything to help rebuild the brain connection that was more than likely messed up due to all the overproduction of cortisol and adrenaline running thru your body.

It is called the HPA-Axis in medical terms, basically it is the connection between your brain and your adrenal glands....so often these wires get burnt or fried and have to be rebuilt as well, this is why the Adrenal Fuel is such a powerful tool...it is loaded with various herbs such as ashwaghandee, rhodiola, cordyceps and ginseng, which are known to support those connectors. And one of the biggest reasons why people can't ever get their adrenal fatigue. So make sure you either add the Adrenal Fuel or get these other things in your system, because if you just do what you are doing and aren't taking anything that is going to support that brain connection...you will never get or find the recovery you are looking for.

Blessings,

Dr. Len

Dr. Len,

Thanks for your input on my question on Adrenal Fatigue.

I have had a set back. I took Pregnelone and DHEA for 10 days. The benefits of feeling better where remarkable; however, the side effects where gruesome. Rapid breathing rythm, insomia resulted. My body is just too hypersensitive to products that have an Adrenal component to them, such as Drenamin by SP, Adrenal Cortical Extract, Isocort, and Adrenal Rebuilder. Which of your products would you recommend to help me ?

Noel,

I would definitely recommend the Adrenal Fuel, but if you are having this much trouble with everything....I would suggest we get together for a consult to help figure out why your body is so sensitive.

Apparently there is a lot of stuff going on that needs some attention.
